The best time to check your gutters is during or right after a heavy rain. Water shows you exactly where the system is failing.
Watch for these six signs: water spilling over the front edge, gutters sagging or pulling away from the house, drips at seams and corners, peeling paint or soft wood on the fascia behind the gutter, puddles or erosion along the foundation, and downspouts that are loose or end right next to the house.
Overflow usually means a clog or a gutter that's lost its pitch toward the downspout. Sagging means failed hangers, often after ice and snow loads over the winter. Leaking seams mean the sealant has dried out and cracked.
Most of these problems can be repaired without replacing the whole system. L&J Roofing re-hangs and re-pitches sagging gutters, reseals leaking seams and end caps, replaces damaged sections, and reattaches downspouts so water drains away from your foundation.
